Frequently Asked Questions

  • What's the ratings system here?
    • G: suitable for all audiences.
    • PG: some content may not be suitable for children.
    • PG-13: some content may not be appropriate for children under thirteen.
    • R: a little sex here and there.
    • NC-17: sex, sex, and more sex.
  • What do you mean by "story time frame?"

Now that's an excellent question. We mean is your story set pre-TNG, during TNG, post-TNG, or pre/post any of the movies. Or post-movies. All of them.

  • What are the different story types?
    • Alternate Universe (A/U) Stories that TPTB would never allow to happen. Ever.
    • Mirror Universe (M/U) They're all evil, the whole lot of them.
    • Normal Universe (N/U) Where TPTB could just pretend not to see it happening. This category is where most stories fall. They aren't blazingly obviously A/U (marriage, kids, evil undead zombie monkeys) and aren't M/U (no goatees).
  • What do you mean by TPTB?

The Powers that Be. All the folks that controlled Trek when it was on TV and in the movies. Also known as "The ones who kept the good doctor and captain apart."

  • How can I become an Editor?

You don't want to. But if you're a sucker for punishment and are fairly HTML savvy, email editor@beyondattached.com and someone will get back to you.

  • I typed in a different URL to get here. What gives?

We have three URLs: www.beyondattached.com, www.alotofthingscanhappen.com, and www.whydidntyouevertellme.com. Two are mirrors. Guess which ones.

  • Okay, but why do you have three different URLs?

    Because we're indecisive.

  • How can I turn my story into a nifty pdf?

If it's really long, we'll do it for you automatically (Novel Length and Epic Stories). If it isn't long, you'll have to ask very nicely.

  • And how do I get my story turned into an eBook?

You'll have to ask the Editors. Actually, you'll have to go to the Editors in supplication because it's a more complicated process than making a pdf. Chocolate works. But it can't be American chocolate, because it tastes like wax.

  • Why does mackillian have so many of her stories as eBooks?

Because she's the one who has the program to make eBooks. If you're going the supplication route, she also likes looseleaf tea, .

  • Now, how can I read the stories in either pdf or eBook format?
    • PDF has an official name of Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) and according to Adobe, "It lets you capture and view robust information — from any application, on any computer system." If you have a Macintosh computer, you already have a pdf reader (Preview). For Windows-based computers (and Mac users who want the Adobe software), you can download the free version of Adobe Reader 8 here.
    • eReader is a program used for reading ebooks on a handheld device (PDA). There is a free version available here.
  • How do I know what category my story falls into?
    • Vignette: less than 2000 words
    • Story: between 2000 and 75,000 words
    • Novel: more than 75,000 words
    • Epic: more than 400,000 words
    • Work in Progress: doesn't matter how many words, it just hasn't been finished yet.
